As well as being showcased on individual designer catwalks, the King of Rock’s inspired look was celebrated at our very own VOGUE World: New York runway show. Here, pieces like Marc Jacobs’ all-polka dot black and white looks were showcased alongside Proenza Schouler’s zebra-print midi dresses. All of these pieces have a hint of nostalgia and a past flair, but for which particular era is not so important. For Fall 2022, some designers appealed to 1950s modesty with hemlines and shins-skimming scarves. Others felt gravity pulling them back to the ’60s — think micro-miniskirts, shift dresses and smooth, shiny patent leathers. Continuing, the 70s is also a main point of reference; designers researched our pussy-bow blouses and sepia-inspired color stories. Blend them all into one and voila: retro fashions that are distinctly Fall 2022.
