New Retro-styled TVS Bike Spotted – Is It TVS Retron?


TVS Motor Company several nameplates for its upcoming products including Retron, Fiero and Zeppelin R. At this time, there is no official information on which nameplate will be used for which upcoming model. If reports are to be believed, the TVS Retron could be a new retro-classic bike and the TVS Zeppelin R could be the name of the next cruising bike. Recently, a test mule of the new TVS bicycle was filmed near the company’s manufacturing plant in Hosur. It is likely to be based on the Apache RTR 160 with sporty design cues.

It can be seen that the test mule has a one-piece saddle and a one-piece grab bar for the passenger. It rides on cross section alloy rims, wider tires. At the rear section, it sports a raised exhaust canister, an elongated rear fender protruding from the rear section and an LED tail light with auxiliary unit. Design cues such as a circular headlight, mirrors and a teardrop-shaped fuel tank give it a retro look. The new TVS bike (TVS Retron) features a circular instrument console with digital and analog partial readings.

It would be early enough to comment on the details of its engine. However, we would expect the new TVS bike (TVS Retron) to derive its power from a 159.7cc air-cooled single cylinder engine borrowed from the Apache RTR 160. The engine could be offered with 2 or 4 valves. . valve configuration offering power close to 15.3 hp with 13.9 Nm and 17.39 hp with 14.73 Nm respectively. Once launched, the TVS Retron will position itself in front of the Yamaha FZ-X. The latter is available in two variants – Std and Bluetooth – priced at Rs 1.16 lakh and Rs 1.24 lakh respectively (all, ex-showroom).
