The retro fashion trends that made a major comeback in 2019

If an alien looked at the fashion trends of 2019, they wouldn’t be able to tell which year we are in. Is it the 70s, 80s or 90s? You can’t tell, because many popular trends of the season were born decades ago. And as is the case with fashion trends, they have made a comeback this year thanks to the designers and fashion brands who have shown us how to go retro in this millennium. Are you wondering what these trends are? Here’s a trip down memory lane for you.

1. Belt bags

Formerly known as daddy bags, fanny packs were a major trend this season. Everyone from celebrities to fashion bloggers have been seen wearing a fanny pack with their casual and sporty outfits. The best part about carrying a fanny pack is that you can make it the sole focus of your outfit. If this isn’t a cool, lazy hack, we don’t know what it is.

2.High waist jeans

The 40s have called, and they are very happy that 2019 has been devoted to high waisted jeans. Originally designed by Levi’s for women working in the countryside and in factories, today it’s a staple in any fashion-conscious woman’s wardrobe. All you have to do is pair it with a crop top and a pair of sneakers, and you’re done.

3. Tiny sunglasses

Nothing screams more retro than micro sunglasses. No wonder, then, that everyone from Rihanna to Deepika Padukone has been seen wearing tiny sunglasses of varying styles and shapes. If you like to collect different types of glasses, you should add one (or ten!) Micro sunglasses to your arsenal. The best part? They can be accessorized with any type of outfit, making them the kind of versatile accessory you need.

4. Bars

Inlaid with pearls, adorned with jewels and plain, all kinds of barrettes are approved this season. Originally dating to the mid to late 19th century, it’s a major trend that has taken catwalks and Instagram by storm. So if you are planning on wearing a huge barrette that has “Girl Boss” written on it, go for it. However, don’t pair it with any other prop (okay, maybe a few bobby pins) to avoid going OTT.

5. Tie-dye

Once a major trend in the 1950s and 1960s, tie-dyeing has seen a major moment this year. From t-shirts and tops to dresses and ensembles, tie-dye outfits were everywhere. While it’s not a Fall / Winter 2019 trend, you can try it out next year. After all, there’s nothing like splashes of color to welcome spring.

These are some of the retro trends that have made a major comeback this year. Which are your favorites?
